Characterization techniques play a fundamental role for industrial purposes, to assist in developing new products and throughout the manufacturing process. For example, electronics industries use electron microscopes and advanced optical spectroscopies in the development and manufacturing processes of semiconductors and other electronics as well as failure analysis and process control.

Other industries that may commonly use characterization techniques as a part of their production process include aeronautics, automotive, apparel, and pharmaceutical industries. The workshop will focus on the importance of the characterization activities in the development of innovative products and in the assessing of the quality and of the impacts of the industrially relevant processes.
