Materials and devices in photonic quantum technologies - Part 1
Co-organized with FBK
Chair: Georg PUCKER, FBK

Nanofabrication and material engineering on the nanoscale plays a crucial role in many of the emerging fields in quantum technology like secure communication, biomedical imaging, ultrasensitive sensors or quantum computing. Bringing these technologies out of the research laboratories to real world applications requires still a tremendous effort also in the fields of material engineering and optimisation of devices and components applied. Many quantum technologies are based on the generation, manipulation and measurements of few or even single photons with well defined and engineered optical properties.

In the present workshop, we plan to give some inside in two important aspects in photonics based quantum technologies:

  • The generation of single photon sources and entangled photon pair sources giving inside in the optimisation of growth and characterisation of materials like wide bandgap materials with engineered color centers or entangled photon sources based on nano engineered optical waveguides and circuits and their use in quantum technologies.
  • Advances in the development of different classes of sensors, imagers and amplifiers for detection of single and entangled photons like superconducting nanowires, SPAD based single photon correlated photon pair sensors and others.

Aim is to give an overview of recent developments and advances in these emerging fields of quantum technology and quantum photonics.

The symposium is part of the Symposia
